MORE INFO FOR YOUR TAG-ALONG SAFARI
Your mission as the parents is to have a 4x4 vehicle (from a RAV 4 up) kitted out as per our requirements list provided below, to relax, enjoy and forget about work, after all it is supposed to be a trip that bonds the family.
WHAT TO BRING
Below is a recommended packing list for the trip. We advise that all luggage is packed in soft bags for easier storage in your vehicles.
Camera and spare batteries
Torches and head lamps
Tents and bedding (for cold and warm nights)
Camping chairs
Cool box with cold drinks and snacks for the journey
Rain coats
Gum boots for muddy days
Clothes that you do not mind getting dirty (warm and cold weather)
Mosquito repellant and sun block
Hat
Book, cards, games
Fishing rods
If you do not have the above equipment and you want we can recommend the best outlets to buy it from.
WHAT YOUR CAR NEEDS
All vehicles participating in this trip have to be 4x4 with good ground clearance (nothing smaller than a RAV 4). They have to be in good mechanical condition. Vehicles that breakdown will be towed by the recovery vehicle to the nearest major town where you will be left to organize your own transport back to your home. If that does happen you will automatically fortify the trip. The trip must go on so please make sure your vehicle has been well serviced before this adventure. The roads that we will travel on are dirt tracks that can either be dusty or muddy. The recovery vehicle will be the lead car and will guide you through any obstacles along the way. The team leader also has the right to alter the route in the case of it being impassable. You the driver will be responsible for your own vehicle hence any damage done to your vehicle will not be our team's responsibility. Below is a recommended list of things that your vehicle should have.
Decent tow rope
Spade
Panga
20 liters drinking water
Snacks and drinks for the drive
Good jack
Fire extinguisher
Fist aid box
Triangles
MANAGEMENT, EMPLOYEES AND LEAD VEHICLE MANAGMENT
Alexander Rostocil - Team leader and professional safari guide. Alex has worked in the safari industry for over 15 years. His extent of bush knowledge is a huge plus on safari. He runs his own safari outfit called beach2bush and takes clients from all over the world on photographic safaris. He has also been expedition leader on a number of Lake Turkana expeditions, Chalbi desert crossings and Kenya to South Africa trips. He is a keen photographer and always gets the perfect shot.
EMPLOYEES (CREW)
There will be a team mechanic and a helper on each trip. The mechanic will be on site for smaller problems and to get any stranded vehicles to our next camping destination. As mentioned above once your vehicle has been towed to the next camping destination if it cannot be repaired you and your team will not be able to continue unless you can get another vehicle to continue in. We have a back up mechanic/rescue team in Nairobi that will be able to tow your vehicle back to Nairobi for repairs if you do not have your own preferred mechanics already.
LEAD VEHICLE
The lead vehicle is a 4.2 liter, 6 cylinder Toyota land cruiser. This 4x4 has been custom built for safaris and has been the lead vehicle on a number of expeditions. It has been nick named the mother ship in the past.
