Alex Rostocil
Alex   It was a passion for the African bush that drew Alex to become a wildlife guide in the mid 1990s. Almost two decades later his passion for the bush is stronger than ever. For Alex it is a privilege to share wildlife encounters with guests, whether it is their first visit to Africa or their fifteenth, and it is as exciting for him to do so today as it was when he first started guiding.
Alex knows that an outstanding wildlife guide must be able to do more than simply track and locate animals – that should go without saying. What makes the difference between a good safari and a great one is a complete immersion into the rhythm of the bush, the endless subtleties and mysteries of the living landscape and its wildlife, big and small. Alex takes equal delight in the charismatic mega fauna of the Big Five , the wonders of the most seemingly ordinary of plants and grasses. All of this he is ready to share with his guests, whether out of the bush or gathered around the campfire under the African sky.
Alex did his guide training in South Africa (Hoedspruit) and spent his first years guiding for different safari operators in East Africa. Apart from guiding he runs his own safari company which these days mainly work with repeat clients.
In short, Alex combines a wealth of experience with a deep and enduring love of guiding. As a natural ‘people person’, he is an entertaining, engaging and always professional tour host, while his integrity, range of experience and work ethic ensure that every company he works for is well represented and every trip runs smoothly.

Having been born and brought up in Kenya, I have had the luxury of living a good deal of my life on safari. I am now lucky enough to live a lifelong dream and my passion for the great out doors has now become my job and the bush is now my office.
I spent my most memorable schooling years in Kenya and went on to further education in the United Kingdom graduating in languages. Having worked for a brief period in London, I decided to return to my homeland to pursue my obsession for the bush. I sat several examinations as well as joining specific guide training courses before setting up my own company offering professional safari guiding services.
During my childhood I was introduced into the world of safari through my parents who had their own tour operator company. In accompanying my parents on safari I was able to learn a great deal about the flora and fauna of East and Southern Africa and it was then, from this early age, that I found my love for nature and developed my great respect for the wilderness and its people. As a professional safari guide it is a true privilege to have the opportunity to work with so many prestigious guides and people in the safari industry. Running luxury lodge safaris as well as truly traditional private luxury mobile tented camp safaris all over Sub Saharan Africa has given me the opportunity to meet many incredible people and experience the best wildlife spectacles of the world.
Photography was never something that really interested me before I became a guide. However, being immersed constantly over the years in what can only be described as the best photographic opportunities in the world, has led me to become a very keen photographer. I am familiar with many camera systems and am happy to assist with operations or offer advice on how to get the best shot. Certainly guiding the likes of artists such as Nick Brandt has greatly enhanced my knowledge of how a camera works and what to look for out there.
I am a fanatical fly-fisherman and spend much of my time outside of safaris on the crystal clear trout streams of Kenya's central highlands. I am also a very keen golfer and have led specialised golfing and fishing safaris all over Kenya.
My experience, knowledge of and enthusiasm for both flora and fauna as well as being fluent in English, Kiswahili, French and Spanish, ensures everyone has an unforgettable safari and hopefully leaves with that feeling of wanting to come back to see more of this amazing continent.
I am fortunate to be able to call Africa my home and like all good things it needs to be shared!
